Hi there. My name’s Sue Ellson and I’m the author of ‘120 Ways To Achieve Your Purpose With LinkedIn‘ and today I’m going to look at five things you can update on your LinkedIn profile if you’re looking for a job and there’s going to be five things I’ll run through.

How to update your LinkedIn URL so you appear in Google search results and I also encourage you to add it to your resume make your email address visible and add it to your Summary include your keywords in your headline update your career interests and follow your target companies and check out their jobs.

So let’s move straight into LinkedIn and I’ll show you how to update your public profile URL if you haven’t done it already. So from your own profile page you can click the top box on the right hand side and you can change this to your name here by clicking the pen and seeing if it’s available and choosing save. If it’s not available I encourage you to consider putting a dash in there and then choosing save or if that’s not available putting a number at the end here and then choosing Save. You can then add that to your resume as well.

The second thing I’m going to suggest is to make your email address visible to others on LinkedIn so you can do this via your Privacy and Settings from the top menu and then click on Privacy and then who can see your email address. Now in the past this has always been set to first-degree connections but now you can make your email address visible to everybody by choosing that everyone on LinkedIn.

You can also do as I have done here in the Summary which is put your email address at the top here so that anybody who’s visiting your profile can automatically see your email address when they look at your profile.

The next thing I’m going to suggest is that you put your keywords in your headline. Please do not put currently seeking opportunities. The first few words are the most important so obviously I want to be found for LinkedIn specialist and then other words secondary keywords can be added in here afterwards. You have a hundred and twenty characters if you update this on a desktop or a laptop computer and about 200 characters if you update it on your mobile device.

The fourth one I’m going to suggest is to update your Career Interests which you can do from the Jobs menu and you click on Career Interests and here you can turn yourself on, fill in your details, messages to recruiters and choose all of these settings here and then that will let people know that you’re open to finding work. If your employer has LinkedIn Recruiter they will also be able to see this so if you don’t want that to be seen then obviously I suggest you leave that one turned off.

The last tip is to follow your target companies. So in the past, I’ve worked for Westpac Banking Corporation, so if I just look up them if I wanted to work for them again, first of all I’d make sure that I’m following them so I am and then you can click here to see the jobs.

So just to refresh those tips, they were update your LinkedIn URL, make your email address visible and add it to your Summary, include your keywords in your Headline, update your Career Interests and Follow your target Companies and check out their jobs.
